Case Study: CSIRO Rapid Temperature Recovery in Research

TRH 3 door
In the world of scientific research, precise control of environmental conditions is critical for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of experiments. This case study explores how the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) identified and addressed this challenge, with the help of a Thermoline's TRH Temperature and Humidity Cabinet.

The Challenge: Precise Environmental Control

CSIRO, renowned for its cutting-edge research, needed to maintain specific temperature and humidity levels for their experiments ensuring minimal interference to these conditions, despite the doors to the cabinets being opened and closed throughout the day. Their requirements were:

  • Precision: The system needed to maintain temperature and humidity levels.
  • Reliability: The equipment had to operate consistently with minimal fluctuations.
  • Flexibility: The setup needed to accommodate various experimental configurations, including the ability to feed cables from the exterior to the interior of the cabinets.

Why the Thermoline TRH Cabinet?

The Thermoline TRH Cabinet emerged as the top choice for several reasons:

  1.  It offers precise temperature control ranging from +5°C to +80°C and humidity control from 10% to 95% RH.
  2. With high-quality materials and construction, the cabinet ensures consistent and reliable performance.
  3. The cabinet can be customised with additional ports, allowing for cables to be fed into the unit.

The Problem

1. CSIRO required a temperature and humidity cabinet that was able to return to set temperatures quickly once components were taken in and out of the chamber.

2. They required additional port holes for advanced cabling.

The Solution

1. After determining their precise requirements (80°C and relative humidity of 20%), Thermoline tested the equipment in their state-of-the-art testing laboratory using the exact temperatures and humidity specifications as provided by CSIRO.

2. Thermoline took photos of the equipment and sent them to CSIRO, showcasing the options for placement of the additional portholes.

The Outcome

The engineering department completed testing, confirming that after opening the door for 30 seconds, the temperature dropped to 64°C and recovered to 80°C in only 7 minutes. If the door was opened for 15 seconds, the temperature dropped to 72°C and recovered in 3 minutes.

CSIRO purchased the TRH Cabinet as the ideal solution for their research requirements and thanked the Thermoline team for assisting them in finding the best solution. "I know it wasn’t part of the standard testing routine, so I appreciate the effort very much."

Conclusion

CSIRO’s experience with the Thermoline TRH Cabinet underscores the importance of having the best equipment for scientific research. By investigating their environmental control challenges and liaising with the expert team at Thermoline, CSIRO had everything they needed to be able to make the best decision for their specific needs.
